Parampara Academy of Performing Arts was established in 2010 by Guru Smt. Bijal Haria, an eminent Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi dance exponent. The word ‘Parampara’ suggests a rich origin of art along with its spiritual significance, the continuing enrichment through practice and, like a river, the flowing into and influencing the times we have been living in. The students receive a comprehensive training in Sanskrit shlokas, taalam, and knowledge of the Shastras and other Indian Treatises along with their respective dance form. The Academy is recognised as the only center in Gujarat to impart dance training leading to a 10-year Diploma in Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi from Sarfojiraje Bhosale Centre, Mumbai. After this, the students through Parampara Academy can pursue a Pre-Degree Diploma followed by a Bachelor’s of Performing Arts (B.P.A) and then a Master’s of Performing Arts (M.P.A) from Bharata College of Fine Arts and Culture, Mumbai, under the able guidance of Principal and Guru Dr. Sandhya Purecha ji.

Parampara Academy is blessed to have the continuous and unconditional support and guidance of renowned and learned gurus like Smt. Smita Shastri, Central SNA Chairman Dr. Sandhya Purecha and Padma Bhushan Dr. Raja Radha and Kaushalya Reddy who have all been the torchbearers of the Academy.
The Academy feels obliged to host revered dignitaries like Padma Shri Shashdhar Acharya, late Padma Shri Dr. Sunil Kothari, late Dr. S.D. Desai, late Dr. A.M. Upadhyay, Smt. Leela Venkataraman, guru Smt. Maheshwari Nagarajan, Dr. Neena Prasad and numerous others. Their knowledge and expertise have made Parampara Academy to what it is today.
At Parampara, we believe in honing each student to their very best. Right from their dance to their personality, the students are fine tuned into better versions of themselves. The journey from learning the first steps to learning the entire repertoire, does not only chisel them as good dancers, but in the process, they grow up to be respectable, knowledgeable, disciplined and unique individuals.
The students at the Academy are also trained in Kalaripayattu as part of extracurricular activity by D.Padmakumar, an indigenous artist and choreographer and a permanent faculty at the Academy. D. Padmakumar, or Pappan sir as he is fondly called, is an expert in Kalaripayattu, Indian Contemporary Dance, Indian Physical Theatre and Indian Physical Dance Theatre. A strategical blend of all these acts as a medium for students to develop strength in the core muscles, enhance stamina, increase flexibility, enables concentration, improves Abhinaya (expressions) and makes the body agile. All this in turn improves their body language and gives a boost to their dance.
Along with in-depth knowledge of classical dance, it is extremely essential for the students to learn about other allied arts like painting, sculpting, puppetry, storytelling and more. The Academy, therefore, takes it upon its shoulders to expose the students to the richness of art through various workshops and seminars by experts in the field.
Students of Parampara Academy know no bounds when it comes to performing on stage. They perform not just in Ahmedabad or Gujarat but across the nation at various prestigious platforms. They are not just taught what it takes to achieve this feat but are also trained extensively to reach there. Struggle is a part and parcel of life and students of Parampara embrace it with an optimistic attitude and know that they must strive to be able to thrive as a good dancer.
The ancient Guru-Shishya Parampara is practiced at the Academy, wherein students develop a unique, intangible bond with their guru. Respect, love and faith form the fundamentals of this relationship that is strengthened in the course of time.
